METROPOLIS – The following information was released by the Metropolis Police Department on Monday, May 15, 2023.

May 8, 2023
A Metropolis officer on patrol observed Adam V. Burnham, 34, Grantsburg, IL riding as a passenger in a red pick-up truck The officer was aware that Burnham was wanted on two warrants. The warrants were issued by Massac County for Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding police. A traffic stop was conducted as the truck pulled into the Walgreen’s. Burnham fled from the vehicle on foot. A foot chase ensued. Burnham was captured in the 200 block of West 17th Street with assistance from the Illinois State Police – Southern IL Drug Task Force which was in the area assisting Metropolis on another case. Burnham was also charged with Resisting a Peace Officer/Arrest. Burnham was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

A Metropolis sergeant on patrol observed Timothy P. Ashworth, 59, Metropolis in the 2100 block of Metropolis Street. The sergeant was aware that Ashworth was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for Delivery of Methamphetamines. Ashworth was arrested and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

May 9, 2023
Metropolis Police received a 911 call from a frightened female. The female advised that she was parked in the parking lot of Massac Memorial Hospital. She was approached by a male who accused her of watching his house. Upon arrival, a Metropolis sergeant met with the victim and she was able to point out the house that the offender went into. The sergeant recognized the house and was aware that the owner has accused many others of watching his house and being aggressive. The sergeant made contact with Johnny B. Cash, 60, Metropolis. Cash who showed signs of intoxication was arrested for Disorderly Conduct. Cash was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

Metropolis officer were called to a domestic disturbance at the Spence Apartments on East 5th Street. Upon arrival, officers observed deep lacerations on the victim’s neck. Officers learned that an argument led to a physical confrontation. Chyanne I. Leonard, 25, Metropolis was arrested for Domestic Battery. She was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

Metropolis officers were called to a residence in the Spence Apartments. Officers were advised that Shane M. Vinson, 20, Metropolis, was inside one of the units. Officers were aware that Vinson has been trespassed from all Massac County Housing Property. Upon arrival, officers located Vinson in a bedroom. Vinson was arrested and charged with Criminal Trespass to State Supported Property. Vinson was also wanted on two warrants. The first warrant was issued by Massac County for Criminal Trespass to State Supported Property. The other warrant was issued by Johnson County, IL for Illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor. Vinson was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

May 10, 2023
A Metropolis sergeant stopped a gold-colored Toyota Van on Girard at 12th Street. The sergeant observed that the driver was using a cell phone without a hands free device. A compute check on the driver, Danielle G. Jeffers, 30, Metropolis revealed that she did not have a valid drivers license. Jeffers was charged with No Valid Driver’s License and Use of Cell Phone without Handsfree Device. She was released on bond.

A Metropolis officer stopped a maroon Chrysler van on 12th and Coburn for expired registration. A computer check revealed that the registration was suspended. A computer check on the driver, Lauren B. Deasel, 27, Metropolis showed that her license was suspended as well. She also could not provide proof of insurance. Deasel was charged with Driving while License Suspended, Operation of an Uninsured Motor Vehicle and Operation of a Motor Vehicle with Suspended Registration. She was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

May 13, 2023
Heidi L. Leonard, 36, Golconda was arrested at 12th and Coburn. Leonard was wanted on warrants. The first was issued by Massac County for Delivery of a Controlled Substance. The second and third warrants were issued by Williamson County, IL. Those warrants were for Forgery and Driving while License Suspended. She was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

Samuel C. Henderson, 25, Paducah, KY was arrested at the Speedy Mart on 12th Street. Henderson was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for Retail Theft. Henderson was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

May 14, 2023
While on patrol, a Metropolis sergeant observed a black pick-up truck exit the Casey’s parking lot. The sergeant recognized the driver as Steven J. Youman, 28, Metropolis. The sergeant was aware that Youman had a revoked driver’s license. A stop was conducted on 19th and 10th streets. Youman was charged with Driving while License Revoked – Felony enhancement as well as being wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Pope County, IL for Aggravated DUI. Youman was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

The preceding information pertains to an arrest made by the Metropolis Police Department. This arrest was made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
