MARION – A man wanted on a failure to appear warrant on a drug charge and another warrant for disorderly conduct was recently arrested in Williamson County.

According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, on Saturday, June 10, the sheriff’s office was conducting warrant service when contact was made with a bar patron who was discovered to be wanted on an outstanding Williamson County warrant for Failure to Appear for Possession of Controlled Substance.

Brent A. Battles was taken into custody without incident and was remanded to the custody of the Williamson County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

Then on Saturday, June 17, the sheriff’s office was conducting warrant service again and discovered that Battles had an outstanding warrant for Disorderly Conduct, a Class 4 felony.

The warrant stems from an incident on Sunday, June 4, where Battles is accused of knowingly transmitting via a 911 emergency call line to the Marion Police Department 911 Operator, a public officer, a false alarm or complaint of information of a disturbance at a time when Battles knew that there was no disturbance and after having repeatedly been informed that calling the 911 Call Center was for emergencies only in violation of Illinois Compiled Statute, Section 5/26-1(a)(4), Chapter 720.

Sheriff Jeff Diederich says 911 services are reserved for true emergencies. When individuals call 911 for non-emergency needs and continue to do so after being told not to, it poses a risk to public safety according to the sheriff.

Battles was taken into custody without incident and remanded to the custody of the Williamson County Jail. Battles bond is set at $30,000.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Marion Police Department and Williamson County State’s Attorney Ted Hampson for their assistance.
