According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Mt. Vernon Police made contact with Brian E. Needy and the juvenile in the 2700 block of Logan Street in Mt. Vernon Tuesday evening.

Needy was detained based on a sheriff’s office investigation and the juvenile was wanted on a DCFS warrant. Needy was taken into custody for Residential Burglary and booked into the Jefferson County Jail to await a pretrial detention hearing.

After Mt. Vernon Police finished processing the juvenile on the warrant, a sheriff’s detective took him into custody. The juvenile was also arrested for the crime of Residential Burglary, involving the theft of a firearm, in the same case as Needy.

The arrests were a result of a sheriff’s office investigation into a residential burglary in the 21000 block of North George Lane in Dix reported earlier the same day.

The juvenile was also cited and charged with several traffic offenses related to a sheriff’s office investigation into a single vehicle crash at East Liberty Road and North Dartmouth Lane Saturday. Five juvenile passengers required varying levels of medical treatment, some of which were serious in nature.

The cited juvenile was the alleged driver of the crashed vehicle and fled the scene after the accident. The juvenile was transported to a juvenile detention center in Winnebago County to await his first hearing.
