MARION – A groundbreaking ceremony was held Friday for the new EMS building at Deaconess Illinois Medical Center in Marion.

Officials say the facility will strengthen interfacility transport services and expand access to care for patients across rural Southern Illinois. It will also enhance coordination, efficiency and seamless patient movement between Deaconess hospitals and care sites throughout the region.

The facility will have dedicated space for crews, equipment and operations, allowing the service to grow alongside the region.

Construction is expected to begin soon with completion set for this April.
