MT. VERNON – The City of Mt. Vernon invites the community to gather for the official Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at The Commons, celebrating the holiday season with the illumination of the city’s iconic 28-foot Christmas tree. While the tree has been glowing since October as part of Mt. Vernon’s fall programming, this ceremony marks its transition to full Christmas colors, unveiling the tree’s festive palette for the holiday season.
This year’s event brings added excitement with new light features installed throughout The Commons, which will debut as part of the lighting ceremony. These enhancements enrich the growing holiday atmosphere at the heart of downtown and are designed to make The Commons an even more memorable gathering place for families, visitors, and residents.
City Manager Nathan McKenna expressed enthusiasm for the continued growth of holiday offerings in Mt. Vernon.
“The Commons has quickly become a centerpiece for community life in Mt. Vernon, and our Christmas tree lighting is one of the moments that truly brings people together. We are excited to unveil this year’s Christmas colors and new lighting features that make the space even more special for our residents and guests.”
Tourism Director Angela Schrum highlighted the importance of creating inviting, share-worthy experiences for both visitors and the local community.
“We love seeing families gather in our community during the holidays. The addition of The Commons, its new lighting features and the brilliant Christmas display on the 28-foot tree add fresh magic to this tradition. We’re proud to continue elevating the holiday experience in Mt. Vernon and hope everyone comes out to celebrate with us.”
The lighting ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday. Attendees are encouraged to bring cameras and share in the joy of the season.
